København bliver ofte fremhævet som en bæredygtig by, der går forrest i den grønne omstilling. Alligevel er næsten halvdelen af byens offentlige rum i dag dedikeret til biler.

I disse år er der stor politisk debat om, hvorvidt biltrafikken på H.C. Andersens Boulevard helt eller delvist skal føres i tunnel. Dette projekt tager udgangspunkt i dette scenarie og undersøger, hvordan der kan skabes et nyt byrum med fokus på cyklisters og fodgængeres trivsel.

The Junction

The Junction is at the crossroads of one of the busiest intersections in Copenhagen. Thousands of cyclists and pedestrians intersect here every day. This design approach is inspired by Jan Gehl’s principles of separating different modes of traffic in order to create safer, more comfortable, and more human-scaled urban environments for all users.

Additionally, the “Junction” guides pedestrians through a narrow corridor before Rådhuspladsen opens up in front of them, similar to the experience of entering a church through the narthex, making the subsequent change in scale more pronounced and memorable.

Tourist

Millions of tourists pass through Rådhuspladsen every year. Today, one of the first things they encounter is a six-lane road cutting directly through the city centre, a condition that stands in sharp contrast to the widespread perception of Copenhagen as a green, pedestrian-friendly city. The ambition of this project is therefore to create a high-quality urban experience for both tourists and local residents, while still allowing cyclists and commuters to move through the area efficiently.
